SHO NUT Performance 3/16” thick Phenolic Intake Manifold Spacers
Phenolic
Intake Spacers go between the Intake Manifold and the cylinder heads. They are used to reduce heat soak between the
heads and intake manifolds. The air entering the engine is thus cooler and
denser, potentially providing more power. In warm weather, blocking off the
coolant lines that warm the throttle body also helps to reduce the air
temperature.
They are available,
on the Performance page, however, we have not tested them yet, so selling them
now would be selling them 'untested'.
We also know from
preliminary testing that they will cause the intake to rub on the hood liner if
the runners are not shaved. We can shave your runners for you as the special
jig will not be available locally, so what we do is send you a loaner set and
shave your matched runners and return them to you. You would then return our loaner set. 3/16" is taken off, which is the thickness of the spacers.
The price for shaving your runners is indicated on the Performance Page. Alternately, we can take your set back as a
core, if you decide to simply keep the loaner set.
If you remove the
hood felt, the runners should fit unshaved without rubbing. However, if you
have an EGR valve bolted to the driver's side of the intake manifold at the
rear, the runners will have to be shaved as you would not be able to bolt on
the valve with spacers and an unshaved manifold. All California cars and all
ATXs have EGR valves.
The spacers are
deliberately made smaller than any stock SHO runner so that with core shift,
the spacer opening will never be too large. Each individual spacer is then port
matched to the runner by the purchaser. This will be quite easy - just bolt the
spacer to the runner and enlarge it to match the opening with a dremel.
If you have had
your intakes port matched, they may have to be rematched after the runners are
shaved.
